I was a member of the marching band in high school (hooray for clarinets!), so I know first hand how getting people to work in any sort of coordinated fashion is as difficult as herding cats. These aerial portraits of people organized in the likeness of pop culture icons from Marilyn Monroe to Audrey Hepburn seem like it’d be a doozy to put together, and artist Craig Alan apparently agreed! Instead of wrangling crowds into formation, he painted each figure in trompe l’oeil fashion – amazing, right? The inspiration behind the artwork came when Alan took photos from a building balcony and was intrigued by patterns created by the teeny tiny people walking about below.

Colsubsidio book posters

Peter Pan and The Werewolf, Alice in Wonderland and The Sword in the Stone, Rapunzel and Don Quixote (via Behance)

I wrote about these super cool book promoting posters a while back, and now there’s a new batch to fall in love with! As the campaign’s tagline “Come with a story and leave with another” hints at, each poster cleverly depicts two different storybook icons. The mash ups are a little harder to figure out than in the previous versions, but the richer colors and details evens out the scorecard in my book!

Winter is officially over, yet there are still teeny snowflake icons dancing through my 5-day forecast…damn. Thank goodness for this charming note card set by Design Army – the clever packaging is such a bonus! These sweet birds will keep me thinking warm Spring thoughts until the glorious day comes when I can finally pack away my winter coats and mittens.

Hello hello! As you may have guessed, Baby Countdown 2K15 has been taking over all aspects of our life these past few weeks as we hit the final stretch. Not only does the apartment look like the Tasmanian Devil blew through it, but there’s a giant desk hanging out in the middle of our living room, waiting to be sold on Craigslist. Let’s just call it a statement piece, shall we?

We’ve been busy relaxing, making a dent in our restaurants-to-check-out list, and hanging out with friends as much as possible before we inevitably fall into a baby vortex, so blogging has sadly gone to the wayside. I’ve missed this space though and look forward to catching up on what you guys have been up to!

In the meantime, I couldn’t resist putting together a tongue-in-cheek set of icons of current blogger obsessions. It seems like I can’t pull up Instagram or Pinterest without at least few of these popping up in my feed at any given time. I myself just bought the cutest pineapple vase the other day, so resistance is futile, people!

I’m always intrigued by the cool icons my husband creates for the UI design work he does, so I decided to take a stab at making some myself! Mine are just a wee bit less technical, but I had fun honing my Illustrator skills nonetheless :-) So if you’ve ever wished there was an icon for, you know, sweatpants or a jar of lightning bugs, your prayers have been answered!
