life’s a beach

Follow Your Bliss print from magalerie | Lovely little cast iron mermaid from Beautiful Details By the Seashore | Pink urchin air plant toHOLD | Sea breeze wall hook set from Touch of Class

Why yes, I am picking out decor for my totally imaginary, yet totally fabulous beach cottage. It’s important to prepare for these types of life decisions, you know.

foxy lady

Who couldn’t use a little furry sidekick to help ease a case of the Mondays? This shirt by dandyrions offers all of the cuteness of a fox stole without any of the guilt (or creepiness). Even PETA must agree!

bed & breakfast

Jungle pancake molds from Williams-Sonoma | Bacon bookmark printable from Wild Olive | Yummy keycaps from Fred Flare | Scented strawberry sprinkles donut ring from Tiny Hands

We’ve made it through another week – whew! I always look forward to the weekend because 1) Sweatpants, here I come! and 2) It’s the only time I eat breakfast. I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but I am so not a morning person. It takes all of my brain power just to dress myself correctly in the mornings, so coffee is all I can handle on weekdays. Weekends, on the other hand, are for eggs benedict and Applewood-smoked bacon and cream cheese-filled muffins and buttery croissants :-) Hope your weekend is full of good eats!

alice in waterland

I can’t stop ooh-ing and aah-ing over this whimsical photoshoot by Elena Kalis, who specializes in underwater photography. She so beautifully captures the surreal world of Alice in Wonderland in these photos – that first image of Alice jumping through the looking glass is pure magic! Check out more photos in this series, along with an interview with Elena, here.

peas in a pod

Rainbow chopsticks from MOMA store | Louis XV Chair from Dransfield & Ross

Rainy days (more like rainy week) call for happy inspirations, and if that rainbow chair isn’t happiness personified, I don’t know what is!

Note: I just realized that all my posts this week have included vivid pops of colors. My subliminal mind seems to be yearning for rich hues as I don my black raincoat and boots every gray morning…

washi pins

I bought a set of Japanese Washi tape several weeks ago and immediately started searching for an easy crafty project to break them in with. When these darling clothespins from Whisker Graphics popped up, I knew I had to make my own! There were bags of mini-clothespins collecting dust in one corner of our apartment, leftover from our wedding, so I already had all supplies on hand. You know a project is good when you can make something fun AND clean out your house at the same time :-)

Fantastically simple instructions: Cover one side of the clothespin with a piece of tape – some colors can be quite sheer, so I used 2 layers – and trim off the excess with an exacto blade. Repeat on the other side and you’re done! I absolutely love how cheerful the clothespins look post-makeover, and they’ve been wonderful at helping me organize papers around my desk. Enjoy!

don’t let the bedbugs bite

Ensure sweet dreamin’ with these brain-tapping iDream pillows by Studio Psyho! Each pillow comes with a different dream bubble to nudge your subconscious in the right direction when you tuck yourself into bed. I’ll take one of each if they’ll fend off my regularly bizarre dreams about being back in high school and not knowing where any of my classes are – why in the world am I still dreaming about high school?!

kim’s little monsters

Bird letter mug | Bunny rabbit knob | Sleeping fox instant comfort box | Little pig porcelain brooch

All of the adorable critters over at Kim’s Little Monsters have me smitten! Every dresser in the entire universe could be improved with bunny face knobs, in my humble opinion. The Instant Comfort boxes are super sweet as well – what a wonderful token to slip into the pocket of a friend who’s having a no good horrible very bad day.

mrs. peacock

1. Peacock feather linen pillow from Giardino | 2. Blue green teardrop earring from amáli | 3. Peacock Rug from Shop Ten 25 | 4. Red Ruby Rose peacock clutch from notonthehighstreet | 5. The Essentials Package hair ties from Mane Message | 6. House of Harlow 1960 peacock bracelet from Boutique To You

Did you hear about the naughty peacock that ran away from the Bronx Zoo this week? The cobra that escaped a month ago seems to have been a bad influence on all the animals! It was captured yesterday while taking advantage of the sunny weather with a leisurely stroll through the streets. I’m glad it’s safe and sound, but I’m kind of bummed the bird isn’t off gallivanting around New York City. It would’ve been too funny to see a radiant plume of technicolor feathers peeking out from behind a hot dog cart or to see it casually perched atop a taxi cab, hitching a ride to meet its friends at a hip downtown bar :-)

more than just a pretty vase

So we all know that I’m not so great at growing plants, but that doesn’t keep me from bringing home beautiful bouquets of flowers from the farmer’s market during the spring and summer months. There’s no faster way to brighten up your home than with a bunch of ruffly peonies or cheerful tulips! Here are some fun vases to display your marvelous May flowers in – I can’t look at the first one without thinking “ch-ch-ch-chia!” Hehe.
