Hi everyone, it is Alison here from Heart of Gold filling in for Gloria while she is on her amazing vacation! Today I am eager to share a seasonal recipe with you that includes peaches that are at their peak right now. This fruit is incredibly versatile and can be worked in many different ways. Instead of baking a pie, I decided to lighten it up and roast the peaches and serve them with a dollop of cream – peaches and cream, what could be better? The only thing better is infusing the whipped cream with lemon verbena, a seasonal herb that has a wonderful citrus aroma. This is an easy dessert that can be prepared in no time and is perfect for those weekend dinners that you are looking for a quick dessert.
3 peaches cut in half, pits removed
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
sugar, to taste
For Lemon Verbena Cream
1 cup whipping cream
2 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1/4 cup lemon verbena leaves packed (if not available, mint will all work), plus more for garnish
Place heavy cream in a sauce pan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer. Add lemon verbena leaves and allow to steep for about 20 minutes on the stove. Next, chill cream until completely cooled, at least two hours. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place peaches in a baking dish. Brush cut side with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for about 35 minutes or until peaches begin to caramelize. Once baked, let cool in pan.
Whip lemon verbena cream until soft peaks form. Place a dollop on the peaches. Garnish with remaining lemon verbena leaves.

Lately, I’ve kind of been obsessed with cakes, especially after seeing this amazingly dreamy cake recipe and photos! I admit that I’ve never made a cake from scratch before, but I’ve got high hopes and ambitions, my friends. One day I’ll tackle this dream of making one of these beautiful cakes that I pin like crazy (aren’t naked cakes the cutest?).

Hello Little White Whale readers. My name is Jane and I blog over at Always With Yoo where I share laughter and musings from the perspective of my family as we settle our roots in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. I am excited to be here to share a little DIY project while Gloria is away on her trip to Asia!
Currently, my husband and I belong to a 15 year old cocker spaniel named Piri. He kind of runs the show around here and he likes to look dapper while he’s ordering his humans to go fetch him his drinks and treats. He has a couple that we bought for him, but I thought it would be nice to pick out some fabric and make some for him, too. One great thing about this DIY is that it doesn’t require sewing, which saves a lot of time!
Here is what you’ll need:
+ Fabric scissors
+ Hot glue gun
+ Non-roll elastic band
+ Pencil or pen
- Cut a piece of fabric depending on the size of your dog. Mine is a medium sized cocker spaniel and cutting a 4 x 9 inch strip seemed like just the right size.
- Cut another piece, this one a bit more thinner. I cut mine approximately 2 x 5 inches long. Set aside.
- Fold the 4 x 9 inch fabric in thirds — horizontally first, and then tucking in the ends. You’re overlapping them so that you’re tucking and hiding the rough edge of the fabric. Set aside.
- Fold your thinner piece of fabric in thirds as well, just horizontally. Non need to hold the ends.
- Going back to your bigger fabric, pinch the middle and make the kind of bow you want. I played around with this part of the DIY process a little bit and liked making a little crease in the middle to give it a little shape.
- Once you have the shape that you want, hold it in place and tie it with the thinner piece of fabric. You may need to trim the ends if it’s too long.
- Measure your dog’s neck and cut the non-roll elastic band accordingly. Make sure you leave a little room and not measure exactly to your dog’s neck size. You want to make sure that it’s not too tight and rests comfortably around their neck.
- Hot glue a scratchy side velcro piece at the end of the elastic band. Glue the fuzzy piece of velcro on the opposite end of the band but on the other side so that they will stick together.
- Take another set of velcro – hot glue the fuzzy side on the middle of the elastic band and the sticky side to the back of your bow.
- Put the finished bow tie around your dog’s neck and attach the ends of the elastic bands together and that’s it!
Because you’re using velcro, you can alway switch them out to fit a certain season or outing.
And just one more thing! Because I had some fabric left over, I thought I’d be all matchy matchy with Piri. I bought a package of 50mm Barrette Nickel and hot glued a bow tie to make myself a hair pin.

Gloria is hands-down one of my favorite people on the internet (and in real life!) so when she asked for a guest post I knew I wanted it to be good… something special enough to live up to all of the mind-blowingly awesome things she shares day in and day out.
And when I thought about it, my mind kept coming back to one thing – because what, I ask you, is better than grilled peaches? Not only are they melt-in-your-mouth delicious by themselves… but add carbs, cheese, and rosemary and I’m more than in. Plus this whole meal is as easy to whip up as firing up the grill… something we’re doing a lot of these days, making the most of those last few days of warmth before the winter sets in.
Grilled Peach Tartine
1 baguette, split and sliced
4 medium-sized peaches, sliced
8oz soft goat cheese
2 tablespoons rosemary, chopped
- Mix goat cheese and rosemary and set aside.
- Toss sliced peaches in a drizzling of olive oil. Brush sliced side of baguette with the same.
- Place peach slices on hottest part of grill, just long enough to sear, about 30-45 seconds. Rotate and sear once more.
- Grill bread, sliced side down, just until toasted.
- Assemble toasted bread with goat cheese, then grilled peaches, and drizzle with chardonnay honey glaze.
Chardonnay Honey Glaze
1/3 cup chardonnay
1/2 cup honey
Bring ingredients to a simmer and reduce by half. Cool and serve.

Hi! This is Audrey from This Little Street. While Gloria is enjoying her amazing vacation (don’t we all wish we were her right now!), most of us have to go back to the reality of school or work. But it doesn’t have to be a bad thing, really. I don’t know about you, but I actually like this time of the year – not only because fall is my favorite season, but September always feels like it offers a fresh start, you know? Kind of like the new year in a way. New goals, new classes, a new schedule…heck, maybe we’ll even find time to exercise in that brand new schedule of ours? Miracles happen :) Anyway, today I picked a few office supplies to get us all going with that fresh start!
